FULL SERVICE MASTERING

 

FULL SERVICE MASTERING here involves the application of well-chosen, well-respected analog outboard gear (compressors, limiters, equalizers, conversion) in conjunction with the very best computer hardware and software. It's like a high-end spa for your audio! Here are the general steps in processing your audio for this level of service:

  • Audio passes through the analog chain on its way back into the computer and/or hardware capture device (e.g. Tascam DA 3000, Korg MR 2000S).
  • Once there, any small adjustments which remain for volume, spectral balance, etc. are made via software.
  • Assessment is made for any noise that should be treated and reduced. It's not unusual to find, that by this point in the process in creating the audio, electro-mechanical noise from the equipment used to make the recording has risen in level with the significant adjustments in gain that have taken place. There may also be ambient noise like HVAC...or someone left a cell phone on during that perfect take.
  • Song file beginnings and endings are edited, “top and tailed”, if you will.
  • Audio files are sample rate converted and dithered.
  • Songs are placed in their (pre-ordained) running order, and text and all other metadata (like titles, composer, ISRC codes, etc) are added for each tune. Track markers are generated here, too.
  • Client assesses the results and approves.
  • A DDP file is created for upload to a duplication facility and/or a PMCD is created.
